HONOLULU (KHON2) - Last night was a big night for local boy Kalani Pe'a -- he won his second Grammy Award!
He won in the Regional Roots division for his recently-released second album "No Anei."
We caught up with him via Facetime today about his big win and Grammy experience.
"This time I didn't expect to get nominated. I cried when I was nominated. I literally, I didn't even expect this. I was so focused on my three week tour and it led to the Grammy Awards, Meghan Trainor and Shaggy. We got to bump into Miley Cyrus. I wanted to sing her dad's popular song, 'Don't break my heart.'" said Kalani Pe'a.
Despite being a two-time Grammy winner, he'll never forget where he's from.
"I'm still a Hawaiian immersion graduate. I tell everyone, I'm still a broke Grammy Award winner so buy my CDs. I tell everyone buy our CDs because not only can you use it as a coaster or frisbee. Buy our music because it's a tough music industry. Support us," Pe'a said.
He also told us the inspiration behind this second album.
"I wrote songs about places that I love on this album. People I love, like my grandmother who suffers from Alzheimer's. I wanted to honor her," Pe'a said.
Pe'a's first album, "E Walea" won in the same category two years ago.
